Hello there WA, I'm new to the whole blogging scene and I was passing by because of a school project I am involved in(I go to college in the US). I saw the comic about the hejab and thought it was funny but wondered if it had a deeper meaning. I wonder if due to the comic you think that the hejab is becoming more like a symbol as opposed to more of a lifestyle. Although the women are wearing it, it appears that they have on tight and somewhat revealing clothing. I also wonder where the comic came from and if the culture that surrounded it had anything to due with the views of the hejab. Also as a final note I just wanted to say that as I was going through your blog I really enjoyed your photography and especially liked most recent ones!

hey there anon, welcome to my blog :)

to be honest when i first saw the comic i laughed becuase in all honesty i recignised the scene many a time in either here in the UK or in arab countries i have visited.

the purpose of hijab is not just to cover the hair, which these characters are doing, but to make sure that the rest of the body is not showing either, and wearing extremley tight clothing just takes away from the meaning of hijab.

hijab has come back with a bang, in the 60s and 70s hijab was nearly non existant in many muslim countries, and woman who wore the hijab where seen to be backward! but since the late 90s, a revival seems to have taken place with many woman choosing to wear the hijab, for some its the equivalnt of 'girl power' lol.

i think its just a misunderstanding of the what the hijab really is, as its not just an external garment but also an internal one, its not just about covering the hair which many including muslim woman think its about, hence the comic :)

hope that kinda answers your question.

the comic is british..
