what is happening to the world, i get a call from my mum this morning telling me to switch on the tv and watch al-jazeera, shes in tears and i cant even make out properly what shes saying.

i do as I'm told, switch on Al-Jazeera, and my god!!! the scene of utter destruction, chaos and blood shed, isreal has done it again....

forgot about being politically correct, you cant with isreal, they just seem to have no human qualities what so ever, western news doesn't seem to help either, there coming up with titles such as 'Israeli warplanes demolished dozens of Hamas security compounds across Gaza' what complete utter lies, they put in the word 'Hamas security compounds' to make the reader excuse isreal for their actions.

truth is since opening the tv all I've seen is civilians, children on their way to SCHOOL, even a donkey amongst the dead, so what kind of security compound are they talking about.

and as for the Egyptian government, well frankly I'm disgusted by hussni mubarak, sorry excuse for a man...

first thing he decides to do is place tanks on the border to prevent 'flocks' of Palestinians entering into egypt!!.

you watch the other arab channels and all you see is musalsalat 'soaps', chat shows, music, concerts blah blah.

ya 3alam wake up....

hello
i am a student in the US doing research on gender and the middle east. I am very interested in your point of view on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict as it pertains to gender. you seem to be very well educated on the topic so i was wondering if you see any differences between the perspectives of men vs women on this topic, or perhaps in your family if your mother feels differently than your father or the same with you and your brother. I was also wondering what made you become so interested in this conflict? was there a certain event that triggered your activism? your photos from these demonstrations are amazing..did you take them yourself?

annie sorry for late reply i only just noticed that you had posted a comment.

your questions are very interesting, and if anything it has made me ponder my own emotions and thought processess concerning the palestine/isreal situation.

generally speaking, as a female we tend to be more emotional, and the only difference bewteen my mother and father concerning this topic is that my mother would shed tears and speak emotionally, my father who i belive shares equal heartache would react differntly, in that he would be more quite, reflective, indulges in debates etc..

my mother would make an attachment purly for the fact that she is a mother and would put herself in the shoes of those who have lost sons and daughters, homes etc in this conflict.

my father is a political person who would dive deeper into the issue, concentrating on the so called leaders attitude and response to the situation.

my attachemnet came for a humanitarian aspect, i couldnt help but feel anguish and anger for the palestinians from the images i grew up seeing, it was the same with the war in bosnia, kasmir, afghanistan with russia, and more recently iraq.

unfortunatly western media has robbed me of any tust i had in media and what it tells the world. i belive americas control on media is even worse!!

i hope this answers your questions, feel free to ask any more :)
